Whether you’re thinking about relocating or simply want to check where your hometown ranks, Rightmove’s Happy at Home Index has revealed the happiest places to live in Great Britain.
Participants were asked to rank ten happiness factors including friendliness of neighbours, quality of local amenities and quality of nature. The scores were totalled up to determine how happy residents are in each town.
1) St Ives, Cornwall
With a stunning beach, green spaces aplenty and such a friendly vibe, it’s no surprise that St Ives in Cornwall is officially the happiest place to live in Great Britain.
Demand for properties in the coastal town has increased by 120% year-on-year so if you want to bag your very own Cornwall beach home, now is the time before property prices increase even further.
Coming in at a close second is the charming market town of Skipton in North Yorkshire. Steeped in history and natural beauty, it’s a popular spot with both tourists and local residents.
3) Leamington Spa
Leamington Spa’s stunning architecture and award-winning green spaces means it’s consistently rated among the best places to live in Great Britain.
4) Llandrindod Wells (Wales)
Wales’s only town to make it into the top 20 happiest places to live in Great Britain is Llandrindod Wells. Having moved up a place from last year’s survey, the spa town is known for its picturesque setting and thriving local community.
5) Perth (Scotland)
Conveniently located just an hour away from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Perth is affectionately known as ‘the gateway to the Highlands.’
With a range of award-winning restaurants, it has a thriving food scene and is the place to be if you love your food.
Located in the stunning Lake District, it’s no surprise that Kendal has made it into the top 10 happiest places to live in Great Britain.
With 56% of people who are planning to buy or rent somewhere in the next 12 months saying access to nature and green space is important to them, Kendal’s breathtaking scenery certainly won’t disappoint.
Famous for being the birthplace of Shakespeare, Stratford-Upon-Avon has managed to secure itself a place in the top 10. This is largely down to easy access to green spaces which is something buyers and renters are placing an increasing importance on.
With no fewer than eight different museums, independent shops aplenty and stunning leafy riverside walks, the residents of Dorchester feel incredibly grateful to call this Devon town home.
Located in the north of Yorkshire, the pretty town of Harrogate has plenty going for it. Residents are particularly drawn in by its natural beauty, independent shops and close proximity to the scenic North Yorkshire moors.
10) Richmond Upon Thames
The only London town to feature in the top 10 happiest places to live in Great Britain is Richmond Upon Thames. Although it’s one of the most expensive places to live in the UK, residents can enjoy scenic walks around the river, an endless selection of shops, restaurants and bars as well as great transport links into London and many other parts of the UK.
